Anwar, who was ousted as deputy premier September 2, has called the men's confessions coerced, saying they are part of a conspiracy to destroy him that also includes allegations of bribery, jeopardizing national security, abuse of power, sedition and interfering with police investigations.

"I say categorically that these are absolute false charges, without an iota of truth to them," Anwar said. "To avoid any doubt whatsoever, I once again clearly and specifically deny that I have been involved in these despicable activities. ... This is a conspiracy involving the prime minister himself."

Anwar was taken into custody September 20 under the Internal Security Act, which permits indefinite detention without trial. Anwar's wife and supporters claim jailers plan to inject him with HIV to "prove" he had gay sex.
