Brainwashing: Sexual-Reorientation Programs Planned
Company had Promised to Stay Clear of Hurt & Hate
Washington, DC--"Dr." Laura Schlessinger revealed that her new TV show will be used to promote "ex-gays", among other topics, according to an article in Tuesday's New York Daily News. The paper reports that Schlessinger "plans to address the issue of sexual-reorientation therapy for gays on her upcoming TV show in the fall."
The revelation that Schlessinger will use Paramount's bully pulpit--she will reportedly have a TV audience in the millions--to broadcast the idea that gays and lesbians need "therapy," as though they were ill, flies in the face of repeated promises to the gay community by entertainment giant.
Paramount has assured its critics on numerous occasions that Schlessinger's new TV show would be produced without "creating or contributing to an environment of hurt, hate or intolerance."
But in a phone call today with StopDrLaura.com, Daily News reporter Robert Dominguez confirmed that Schlessinger specifically told him that she plans to have a doctor on the show who specializes in "ex-gays."
According to Schlessinger, the doctor "is a person whose great intellect and compassion is working very honestly to help [gay] people who want to make some kind of a change." She added, "we would probably present that subject." Dominguez added that Schlessinger said the show would address "hundreds" of other topics as well.
This announcement comes within less than 24 hours of Procter & Gamble dropping its sponsorship of Dr. Laura's TV and radio shows. P&G only announced last week that they would be the first advertiser to buy space on the new show. The company issued a statement two days ago saying it was dropping Laura Schlessinger.
The gay community's concern over the latest revelation is not simply that Paramount appears to have lied about the supposedly benign content of the upcoming show, but also that Paramount will be broadcasting unscientific "science" to millions of vulnerable Americans.
The notion that gays can and should change, or be "repaired," has been rejected by all leading medical bodies, including the American Psychological Association and the American Psychiatric Association.
American Psychiatric Association:
"There is no published scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of 'reparative therapy' as a treatment to change one's sexual orientation."
American Psychological Association: "No scientific evidence exists to support the effectiveness of any of the conversion therapies that try to change one's sexual orientation....research findings suggest that efforts to 'repair' homosexuals are nothing more than social prejudice garbed in psychological accouterments."
Paramount would never produce a show promoting unsubstantiated science questioning the biological normalcy of any other minority.
At best: Paramount appears to have no control over whether Dr. Laura will use her new TV show to promote an anti-gay agenda;
At worst: Paramount Television is complicit in giving Dr. Laura a podium to teach the world that millions of gays and lesbians are sick and need to be cured.
